Maiden Erlegh School
Maiden Erlegh School provides a high quality education for over 1800 students, 440 of whom are in our sixth form.
We are successful because we have a team of committed people who promote achievement. In 2007 Ofsted judged us to be an outstanding school with an outstanding sixth form. In 2010 Ofsted confirmed that we were maintaining outstanding levels of performance and did not need to be inspected in 2010, 2011, 2012 or 2013.
We were designated a National Support School (NSS) and invited to contribute to the national school improvement agenda. We were the first school in the Borough of Wokingham to achieve the prestigious NACE National Challenge Award for excellence in provision for most able students.
In 2009 we won the National Uniservity ICT Award and were awarded 'leading edge' status.
In April 2011 we became the first new government ‘outstanding’ academy in Wokingham Borough.
In April 2012 we became the first new government national teaching school in Berkshire.
In 2013 the Government approved our application to open another Maiden Erlegh School in Reading.
In 2014 we received national recognition for both the progress made by students and for high attainment.
Academic excellence is not the whole picture here. All students have the opportunity to visit Tirabad, the school’s jointly owned outdoor education centre in Wales. Here students are able to develop the skills they will need to cope with a rapidly changing world. Foreign language exchanges are also arranged with France and Germany. Students have also participated in World Challenge expeditions to Peru, Java, Tanzania, Ecuador and Zambia, and a humanities group visited China.
We pride ourselves on an excellent range of extra-curricular activities, which offer further opportunities for students to pursue their interests in music, drama, art and sport.
The arts play a significant part here and we have an excellent reputation for achievements in music, drama, dance and the visual arts. A full programme of public performance, community activities, workshops, exhibitions, dance and art festivals ensure that students have an outlet for their talents. The school was awarded Artsmark Gold.
The school has expanded to meet the growing number of applications for places under the Expanding Popular and Successful Schools programme. This additional capital investment brought many benefits to the school and created a learning environment fit for the 21st century.
